Committees

Concurrent Sessions: United Nations Security Council

Chair: Nettra Pan
Crisis Director: Ethan Wong

The idea behind the Concurrent Session committees is a fairly simple one: to simulate the work of two UN organs on the same topic. Instead of pitting two opposing committees against each other as in a standard Joint Crisis Committee, the Concurrent Session will place the two simulated bodies on the same side. Nations on the two committees will have to coordinate policy and use the specific powers/expertise of the Security Council and IAEA to accomplish their goals relating to a common topic/central crisis.

The IAEA Board of Governors will be a slightly slower committee of between 20-35 members and grounded more in Parliamentary Procedure than fast-paced crisis. Without much executive power, the Board will rely on their agency’s expertise (relevant to the topic) to inform the work of the Security Council and shape the international reaction to the planned central crisis.
