Han Dynasty Court, 202 B.C.

Chair: Katy Marshall
Crisis Director: Winston Kung

The year is 202 BC. The Qin Dynasty, the first to ever unite China, has fallen under the weight of its own cruelty. One cunning peasant, Liu Bang, has emerged through the chaos to re-conquer China and declare himself the first Han emperor. How will the new China be administered? Can the old Feudal princes be contained, or should they be brought into the new dynastic government? And what exactly to do with the vast barbarian hordes to the North? As a minister in the Emperor's court, you will have to decide not only on these issues, but also be ever on the lookout for hostile court factions and the Emperor's favor - lest you be shamed by your opponents, or worse.

Note that due to lack of sufficient primary sources during this time period, the characters will be mostly fictional, and delegates should email the chair/crisis director if they have any questions on their position apart from the descriptions in the background guide.

Having grown up in Taiwan, Winston has long been interested in Chinese history and the amazing range of historical scenarios it presents. He's studying Chinese Civilization right now and have taken classes on Chinese politics, and really believes that there is no possible way to understand the Chinese state today unless you know its historical background.
