Qing Dynasty Imperial Court
The year is 1850, and China is in the midst of harsh turmoil. After recently being defeated by the British in a war over opium importation, China is destabilized politically and weak militarily and economically. Not only are there domestic perils threatening the Qing Dynasty, but China has also recently stepped onto the international stage unprepared and at a severe disadvantage. The westerners have turned their imperialist eyes toward our lands, opium has ravaged our population, and the people have had enough are and are beginning to rebel. As the highest consultants of His Imperial Majesty, delegates need to find a way to restore China’s former reputation and glory while considering issues such as modernization and reform. Delegates are charged with solving the long-term problems of the day, and managing immediate catastrophes that may arise. The troubles facing the High Court will challenge delegates and define the direction that China will take for generations to come. Join us in simulating one of the most exciting and influential times in Chinese history.
